Philip Griffiths' CV
Griffiths Design Group
Philip Griffiths Architects is a leading firm of Perth architects, heritage specialists, and urban designers. Philip Griffiths Architects was born out of a practice of which Philip was a co-director for over 20 years.

The new company emerged from a desire to diversify the range of work covered by the practice, and to take a fresh approach to design.

The practice undertakes commissions in architecture, heritage conservation and urban design, and provides professional advice on a range of issues related to these areas of our discipline.

The practice has won architectural, planning, and heritage awards for a wide range of projects located throughout the state.

Philip Griffiths Architects has a great depth of experience across numerous project types and delivers innovative solutions that embrace environmental responsibility with elegant and simple solutions. The projects are the product of working closely with clients, carefully assessing their expectations, and delivering high quality results.

The practice aims to make the journey from inception to completion a pleasurable experience for all involved.

Architecture Services

We undertake all aspects of architecture and design for commercial, institutional, interiors, and residential projects. The services include brief development, site analysis, schematic design and design development, building procurement method advice, contract documentation, tender analysis, contract administration, and post occupancy assessment.

Our commercial work ranges across retail, office development, tourism, and hospitality.

Institutional work includes secondary and tertiary education, police and justice, government accommodation and parks, and has included unique projects such as Government House Ballroom and Grounds, and the State War Memorial.

In this area of practice we apply highly creative thinking and produce innovative results that are cognisant of ESD principles.

Conservation Services

Our work in the heritage environment includes preliminary and full heritage assessments, conservation plans, heritage strategies, expert witness work, grant application assistance, and heritage conservation of important heritage places. It also includes site master planning and assisting other architects to manage the heritage dimension of major projects.

Conservation projects require a deep understanding of place and the capacity to explore imaginative possibilities.

Urban Design

Urban design work includes character studies, streetscape design, coastal planning, town planning policies, development guidelines, town centre master planning, and transport oriented development studies.

This aspect of practice requires an understanding of place positive attributes so that the design process is respectful and adds value.

Other Work

A good number of projects cross all of the disciplines previously described. Some other kinds of work have emerged, such as lighting design, giving talks to lay and student groups, and providing assistance with judging awards for various bodies. The practice also provides advice through membership of the Minister for Works Fremantle Prison Advisory Trust, Rottnest Island Cultural Heritage Advisory Group and the RAIA Heritage Committee. The other work dimension of practice leads us to all kinds of unexpected place and frequently links back to the service already mentioned.

Interiors
We are engaged in significant interior projects in all our project areas. On many of these projects, we work in collaboration with the Griffiths Design Group, who specialise in needs analysis, space planning and interior design.
