Western Australian Architecture Awards
Commendation - Award for Alterations and Adaptation - 1999

The adaptation made use of the existing building shell and its south lighting to provide a new and naturally lit studio space.

In 1997 the building was sold. The factory and office were adapted for alternative use. Using the provisions of the City Planning Scheme a new brief was developed to transform the place into a studio of some 300 square metres.
The project is a good demonstration of what can be done to a redundant building to suit a new purpose. It makes maximum use of the existing structure and uses devices to accommodate a more intensive use.

For many years the premises served as a cabinet works. Offices were added to the front of the works and a number of office and warehouse uses ensured following the closure of the cabinet works.
